Perfect Rice Every Time

I have been cooking perfect rice for over 20 years and I must give credit where it is due.  Sevim Ozbilgin, who was my mother-in-law at the time, taught me how to make perfect rice.  It is always fluffy and delicious every time.  I am giving you the recipe below for plain rice but you can take this simple technique and make countless versions.  I will give you some ideas for variations in upcoming posts.

Ingredients
  • 2 Tablespoons Cooking Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1½ Cups Jasmine Rice
  • 3 Cups Boiling Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
Instructions
  1. Heat the cooking oil and butter in a pot.
  2. Add the rice and salt and coat thoroughly with the oil and butter mixture.
  3. Toast 2-3 minutes then pour in the 3 cups boiling water.
  4. Cover, lower heat and cook for 16 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and place a clean kitchen towel over between the pot and the lid.
  6. Let rest 5 minutes.
