Tiramisu Cake
Tiramisu Cake

Dah, dah, dah, dah….. Finally, after over a month with no posts, I have managed to get this one finished.  So sorry it has been so long!  I hope the recipe I have for you today will make up for it though.  Once again, my best friend Angie is in the spotlight.  It was her birthday, well actually she is a Valentine baby so it was last week on the 14th.  Because I took my daughter to Kami-con Season 6, we were not able to celebrate on her actual birthday so we celebrated last night.  I had tried to coax an answer out of her about a week before her birthday about which cake is her favorite.  All I could get out of her is “Well, you know I don’t like coconut” and “Cake? I love any kind of cake!”  This was going to be tough.  Angie is an excellent baker and she makes the best cakes, cookies and candies.  So I went to Pinterest to get ideas.  When I saw all the recipes for Tiramisu Cake, I knew I had to make one.  My daughter always laughs at me because I will look at cookbooks and magazines for ideas but I never go by the recipes.  I get an idea and then change it to my taste.  I hope you enjoy the recipe.  I know we did.  My sister, Kim and my cousin, Donna both said just give me a half a piece and they both regretted it.  I think Donna did end up getting her other half.  You try the recipe, I have to go, I think I hear a slice of cake calling my name.  Afiyet Olsun!

Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 1 Box Super Moist Butter Cake Mix
  • 1 Cup Water
  • ⅓ Cup Butter, Softened
  • 3 Eggs
  • * You can use your favorite cake recipe for the above 4 ingredients
  • ¾ Cup Boiling hot water
  • 2 Tablespoons Instant Coffee Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
  • ¼ Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tub (12 oz)Whipped Cream Cheese
  • 4 ounces Cream Cheese, softened
  • 2¼ Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Kahlua Coffee Liqueur
  • 2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 4 ounces Shaved Chocolate (I used a Hershey's bar that I put in the freezer for about 30 minutes to make mine.)
  • 1 -2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 12 Ladyfingers
Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray two 9 inch pans with baking spray or grease and flour them.
  2. Mix the cake mix, water, eggs and butter and pour equal amounts into each cake pan.
  3. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes or until golden. A toothpick inserted into cake should come out clean.
  4. Let the cake cool completely.
  5. While cake is cooling, combine the boiling water, instant coffee, Kahlua and powdered sugar and let cool.
  6. Mix the whipped cream cheese, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and Kahlua until smooth.
  7. In a another bowl whip the heavy cream till stiff peaks are formed.
  8. Pour the heavy cream into the cream cheese mixture and whip about 1-2 minutes, until well combined.
  9. When the cake is cooled, cut the cake in half horizontally.
  10. Place one cake half on the bottom of your cake plate and drizzle with the coffee mixture.
  11. Place ½ to ¾ cup of the cream cheese mixture on the cake and spread evenly to the edges.
  12. Place the second half of the cake on top and drizzle with the coffee mixture. Top with ½ to ¾ cup of the cream cheese mixture and spread evenly to the edges.
  13. Continue in the same manner with the remaining two cake halves.
  14. Using the remaining frosting, cover the top and sides of cake generously.
  15. Place the 12 Lady fingers around the edge of the cake leaving about a 1½ inch space between each one.  Drizzle a little of the coffee mixture on each Lady finger.  I poured the remaining coffee mixture into a squirt bottle and used it to do them one by one.
  16. Dust the top of the cake with the cocoa powder and then top with the shaved Chocolate Curls. Afiyet olsun!
