For the past seven years, I have thought to myself (and maybe said aloud if the truth be known), “I think I will enter the Downtown Gadsden’s Chili Cook-off this year.” Each year, something came up and I never followed through with entering. Well, this year I made up my mind and entered. It was held this past Saturday, February 7th and the weather was gorgeous. The organizers of the event said that they had more entries this year than previous years with more than 30 competitors. My daughter, Stella, her boyfriend, Chris, my cousin, Donna and my sister Kim were part of our team. We made 22 quarts of Chili that had a wonderful smoky flavor. It was not a scald your tonsils Chili but more of a slow warmth kind of Chili. I will have to break the recipe down to a family sized batch and post it later on for you guys. In the mean time, you can get my everyday Chili recipe here. We did not win the cook-off, but we had such a good time. You can click here to see pictures of some of the teams and get more info if you are interested in competing yourself next year.
