Parmesan Skillet Bread

March 28, 2015

What is more yummy than a good roll?  A good roll topped with Parmesan cheese.  If your family loves cheese as much as mine does, then my Parmesan Skillet Bread will be a hit with all the cheese lovers in your family.  Everyone knows that I am a cheese head.  You can open my fridge anytime and find at least 5 or more different cheeses.  I have never found a cheese that I didn’t love.  You probably figured that out already from my recent posts Easy Skillet Rolls with Pepperoni Jalapeno Cheese Dip and my Caramelized Onion and Blue Cheese Dip.  This recipe is so easy and it always turns out great.  I went ahead and made a video to go along with the recipe.  You can scroll down to see that or just click on this Parmesan Skillet Bread Link.  If you don’t already know how to bloom your yeast for the dough just click on my Blooming Yeast Video Link.   These rolls are great served with soup, salad or a good pasta.  Try them for yourself.  Your going to love them.

Recipe type: Bread
Ingredients
  • 1½ Cups Warm Water at 110 degrees (if you don't have a thermometer, put your pinkie if you can't keep your pinkie finger in the water then it is too hot and will kill your yeast)
  • 2¼ Teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 3½ Cups Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 3-4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • ¼ Cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
Instructions
  1. Sprinkle the Yeast over the water.
  2. Stir in the honey and place in a warm area AWAY from draught for 5-10 minutes until the yeast blooms.
  3. Meanwhile, place the flour into a large mixing bowl.
  4. Stir in the salt.
  5. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour and mix well with your hands.
  6. Knead the dough for 6-8 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
  7. Drizzle the olive oil in the bowl and make sure the dough is covered.
  8. Cover with a slightly damp towel and place in a warm area. Again this should be AWAY from draught. Leave until dough is doubled in size or about 30 minutes.
  9. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Place a small pan filled half-way with water in the oven to produce steam. This will help the dough rise up while baking.
  10. Pinch the dough into about 16 one inch pieces of dough and shape into balls. Arrange in a skillet that you have coated the bottom of the pan with olive oil. Cover with a damp towel and let rise until the rolls puff up about 15 minutes.
  11. Drizzle with a little olive oil and sprinkle on the Parmesan cheese.
  12. Place the skillet into the oven and bake 15 - 20 minutes or until golden.
  13. Serve warm with soup, salad, spaghetti or your favorite meal. Afiyet olsun!
