The Perfect Cabbage
I really love stuffed cabbage but sometimes, it seems like it takes forever to roll them up. But finally, I found the perfect size cabbage for rolling my Savory Stuffed Cabbage. It was a tiny little cabbage but it was packed with flavor! Another big win for this recipe is that it only took about 15 minutes to prep and then 15 minutes in my Instantpot and dinner was served! Of course, if you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can always put these in a normal pot and cook 30 minutes on medium heat.
Make sure you make plenty of my garlic yogurt sauce to serve over the top. Some thick slices of crusty bread is a great addition as they can be used to sop up all the juices (it’s a Southern Thang ya’ll).
Instant Pot Stuffed Cabbage
- 1 small head of cabbage
- ½ pound ground beef or sirloin
- ¼ Cup Rice
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1½ Tsp ground oregano
- 1 Tsp Paprika
- 1 Tsp Onion Powder
- 1½ Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1½ Tsp Salt
- 14 ounces crushed tomatoes, 3 Tablespoons for the meat stuffing mixture
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 Tsp Crushed Red Pepper
- 1½ Tsp Dried Dill
- Wash your cabbage and place it in a microwave-safe deep bowl.
- Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of water and cover with plastic wrap.
- Then microwave for 6 minutes.
- Remove from the microwave and let cool.
- Leave the cabbage to cool.
- Meanwhile, mix the ground meat, rice, olive oil, salt, ground oregano, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and 3 tablespoons crushed tomatoes until well blended.
- Next, carefully pull the leaves off the cabbage and lay on a plate. You may need to use a knife to cut the core out of the cabbage.
- Place a cabbage leaf in the palm of your hand with the stem close to your wrist.
- Then take a small amount of the meat mixture and place at the top of the cabbage.
- Roll down once and tuck the sides in. Then continue rolling to the end of the leaf.
- Place seam down in your instant pot.
- Continue rolling all the leaves till you are finished. And line the bottom of the pan. Continue making layers until you are done.
- If you have extra meat, you can make little patties and place on top of the cabbage rolls. If you have extra cabbage, you can chop it and place over the top.
- Next, pour the crushed tomatoes and the water over the top.
- Place a small plate on top of the stuffed cabbage.
- Put the pot in your Instantpot and seal the lid.
- Set the manual button for 15 minutes.
- Release the pressure and remove the plate.
- Finally, sprinkle with crushed red pepper and dried dill and serve with garlic yogurt.
