Kofte Patates aka Meatballs with Potatoes

Nothing says comfort food like meat and potatoes.  That is why you are going to love my recipe for Kofte Patates aka Meatballs with Potatoes.  It is a Turkish dish and is super easy to prepare. You could even prepare it the night before, cover with aluminum foil, then just take out of the fridge while you are pre-heating your oven.  Then bake as directed and pair with a nice salad.  You will have dinner on the table in about a half hour.  The tomatoes cook down and make a nice sauce in the bottom of the pan.  By the way the new potatoes and tomatoes are also from my great finds at the Attalla Farmer’s Market.  Please support your local farmers.  Not only do you get fresher ingredients, you make a contribution to sustainability!  I hope you enjoy my Farmer’s Market meal.  Let me know what you like to buy and prepare from your Farmer’s Market.  Afiyet olsun!

Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Grate the onion into a bowl and add in the toasted bread, eggs, garlic and all the herbs and spices. Then work this into a paste. (You could also the chopper blade on your food processor to combine all the ingredients except the parsley and ground beef. Chop the parsley by hand or your kofte will have a green tinge to them. Not good.)
  3. Add the ground beef and mix until blended but not over worked.
  4. Shape the mixture into little meatballs about the size of your new potatoes and place on a baking sheet. Alternating, potato, kofte, potato, kofte, etc.
  5. Cut the cherry tomatoes into quarters and place between the meat and potatoes. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until done. You can broil for 4 minutes or so if the meatballs are not getting browned enough. Afiyet olsun!
