Jack Daniel’s Distillery

Charcoal Making Furnace

One of my favorite things we did on my birthday weekend was taking the fascinating tour of Jack Daniel’s Distillery on our way to the Country Living Fair.   First of all, the grounds were gorgeous and beautifully kept.  Everyone was so friendly, especially our tour guide Kim!  She really knew everything about the Jack Daniel’s Distillery.  You could tell she really loves her job.  I don’t want to tell too much about the tour because then there would be no reason...

Manti Inspired Fresh Made Spaghetti and Meatballs

Manti Inspired Fresh Made Spaghetti and Meatballs   First and foremost, let me say this is not Manti!!!! Manti is a delicious Turkish dish that is best made when you have plenty of helping hands around.  It could be done alone but part of the fun of making Manti is spending the time stuffing the dough with the meat mixture while you chit-chat with your family and/or friends!  The best Manti in Turkey is from the Kayseri region.  My former...

Crockpot Squash Casserole

Crock-pot Squash Casserole

Crockpot Squash Casserole Crockpot Squash Casserole, just the name makes my mouth water.  This is a recipe your whole family will drool over.  Squash Casserole is one of my brother’s favorite dishes that my sister and I make.  It doesn’t matter who makes it for our holiday dinners, it is one dish that always gets eaten up.  My sister uses water chestnuts in her recipe and I am pretty sure she told me she does not add cheese.  I would have...

A Wonderful Evening at Persepolis Cuisine

My sister Kim and I found a fantastic restaurant while in Atlanta yesterday that we both highly recommend. We enjoyed a wonderful evening at Persepolis Cuisine.  We actually found it by accident and it was great. If you go to Atlanta, it is worth the trip. When we first found it, we weren’t sure from the outside looks if it would be good.  Not because it looked bad it was just very plain.  We decided to give it a try...

Happy New Year 2015

I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year 2015.  I hope it is filled with Happiness and Prosperity.  If there is one thing I hope all of you will do in the New Year is to try new foods and new recipes.  You may look at a recipe and say to yourself “This recipe calls for carrots and I don’t like carrots!”.  The great thing about a recipe is that you can use it as a...

Chocolate Cherry Delight à la mode

Who doesn’t love chocolate? I know I love it!  When I was pregnant with my daughter, way back in 1992, I practically lived off chocolate.  Her father is a pilot and every time he flew to a different country, he would always bring me chocolate back. Unfortunately,  I no longer have my own chocolate stash flown in to me from around the world.  Now days when I want chocolate, it is a Reese’s Cup or I have to make...

Chicken and Spinach Alfredo with Thin Spaghetti

What is more comforting than a cheesy, creamy pasta dish? In our house it is one that also has chicken and spinach.  This beautiful pasta dish, Chicken and Spinach Alfredo with Thin Spaghetti was an easy prep and even better easy clean up meal.  Besides boiling the pasta, everything else is cooked in one pan.  If you have picky eaters, this is a great dish to prepare to introduce them to spinach.   My family loved this dish and I...

Sorry I Haven’t Posted Lately, Sickness in Family

Sorry I haven’t posted lately, sickness in family kept me from doing so.  My dear friend who is like a father to me had a massive heart attack and I have been at the hospital with him. You may remember him from the German Chocolate Post. I made this cake for him for his birthday and he loved it.  I have been at the hospital with him everyday so that is why I have not posted anything new....

Clarified Butter

Clarified butter is butter that has had all the water and milk solids removed.  It is great for cooking rice, risotto, and pasta dishes.  Many Indian dishes call for Ghee which is a form of clarified butter.  Once clarified, the butter can be stored outside the refrigerator but personally, I would store it in the fridge.  It can be kept up to one year if refrigerated. I Thought I Made the Best Lasagna . . . Today That Has Changed

Well, I LOVE Lasagna and until today, I thought mine was the best I had ever eaten.  My dear friend from high school, Angie told me last night that she was making some and would I like her to bring some by to me for lunch the next day.  Of course I said yes and didn’t think much more about it.  She called me earlier and said she would be bringing it by to me. Well, I didn’t want to...
